The Beaufort Garden Club
The Beaufort Garden Club, the second oldest garden club in South Carolina, has a rich history of promoting gardening and community involvement. The club began as a small group of ladies during The Great Depression, with only 25 members, who were intent on sprucing up the appearance of downtown Beaufort. Over the years, they have collaborated with veterans groups, the USO, and local military bases, resulting in the planting of numerous azaleas, camellias, palmettos, and other beautiful flowers throughout the town. They are also credited with being the first group to plant the Sabal Palmetto Palms, which now line Highway 21 from Gardens Corner to Beaufort.
Since 1994, the Beaufort Garden Club has hosted their annual Garden-A-Day event, which draws large crowds from all over South Carolina and as far as Canada and South Africa. The event will take place Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, rain or shine. No pets are allowed.
Can’t make it to town during that week? The Beaufort Garden Club has curated pocket parks throughout downtown Beaufort and the surrounding areas. Take a walk around town any time you visit and enjoy the native plants and pollinators in these gorgeous gardens and green spaces.
