Distilleries are the newest trend sweeping the nation. Each unique distillery includes their own flavors and history into each bottle they produce. You’ll find bourbon, whiskey, vodka, and even moonshine that is smooth, sippable, and may just be your new favorite spirit. Stop by any of these incredible distilleries and fall in love with the tastes of the Lowcountry.
RLB Distillery
New to the Lowcountry distilling scene, Rotten Little Bastard (RLB) Distillery is quickly becoming a local favorite. RLB was the perfect addition to the quaint town of Beaufort and you can now enjoy a smooth cocktail after a day of kayaking, biking, or exploring the beaches. You’ll find high quality Bourbon, Vodka, and Moonshine inside the store. You can pop in for a taste, but we recommend taking a tour for the full experience. You’ll get a front row seat to the distilling operation and tasters throughout so you can not only see, but taste the difference.
Hilton Head Distillery
Hilton Head Distillery is a family-owned outfit with a modern and welcoming tasting room and a wide selection of rums, flavored whiskeys, and light spirits. You’ll find classics like Peach Whiskey and Toasted Coconut Rum plus a few flavors that just might be your new favorite. Try a sample of the Bananas Foster Rum, Mountain Peak Espresso Rum, or the Honeysuckle Whiskey (one of the only ones in the world). The distillery is always offering specials like $10 tastings where you can sample 6 different options, or tasty handcrafted cocktails that complement and enhance their handcrafted spirits. Bonus Tip: While you’re here, take some time to visit Hilton Head Brewing Company and Island Winery, both within a quick walk from the distillery.
Lucky Duck Distillery
Lucky Duck Distillery in Yemassee is the perfect place to stop on your way to or from Beaufort. This intimate micro-distillery is a blend of tried and true old recipes with new formulas for a modern moonshine taste. Using all-natural flavorings, you’ll find moonshine that is sweet and sippable without being sugary. Since its inception, Lucky Duck’s whiskeys have only grown in popularity. As time goes on you can expect limited edition bottles of aged whiskey that will surely be amazing.
Daufuskie Island Rum Company
If you haven’t made a trip out to Daufuskie Island, then this may be the perfect excuse to go. You will need to allow a whole day to travel to and from the island plus take a tour of the distillery. This laid back island is only reachable by ferry or water taxi and once on the island, you’ll either have to walk or rent a golf cart from Tour Daufuskie. The slower pace of life is what made Daufuskie Island the perfect place to open a rum company. You can taste the sun, the sea, and the history of the island in each sip of their smooth rum. Start with a cocktail or taster of their original or spiced rum before venturing to their Fuskie Fire Rum, Kona Edition, or Blueberry Lavender Vodka. During the summer, the Blueberry Lavender Vodka with lemonade is the perfect refreshing treat to cool you off on a sunny afternoon. During the winter, the Apple Pie Cocktail with Fuskie Fire and apple cider will warm you right up and remind you of your favorite holiday desserts.
Dotted all around the lowcountry, these incredible distilleries are worth a visit. Stop by for a tasting round or have their mixologists create a smooth cocktail with their signature spirits.
