3 Things to Do at the 2018 Lowcountry Fair
On Saturday, November 3rd, Cotton Hall Plantation in Northern Beaufort will come alive with activity for the 2018 Lowcountry Fair! The festival will feature events highlighting aspects of the unique culture and heritage of the South Carolina Lowcountry and its historical underpinnings. Of course, there will also be a wide variety of entertainment, vendors, arts, food, and more. Here are some festival highlights that you surely won’t want to skip.
1. Marsh Tacky Horse Races
The 2018 Lowcountry Fair is the only place to watch Tacky Horse Races this year! The headline event boasts a fun, family-friendly atmosphere and is the perfect opportunity to watch racehorses and their riders glide through obstacle courses. At the end of the day, a “Grand Champion” will be crowned. Be sure to stick around, because you and your family will also have the chance to meet and interact with the horses!
2. Living History
Over 500 years of history will be displayed in the plantation’s 50-acre field! Reenactors will show what family life, living conditions, and times of war were really like during their designated time periods. You’ll be able to take a step back in time and experience eras such as 16th-century colonial times, the American Revolution, and the Civil War/Reconstruction period. The reenactors will also be mingling with spectators to share stories of life gone by, fire their weapons, and engage visitors during fun and educational activities.
3. Local Food Concessions
Indulge in some of the finest Lowcountry cuisine during your visit to the Lowcountry Fair! Food vendors will be available throughout the day to share their delicious creations. From Southern BBQ to oysters, you’ll be able to taste it all, so be sure you arrive hungry! There will also be opportunities to sip on locally crafted beer and wine, so you can wash down all of that delicious food with even more local specialties.
