History of the Rhett Gallery in Beaufort

The Rhett Gallery was opened by Bill and Nancy Rhett in 1981. They were growing tired of lugging their art up the east coast to exhibits in New York City, so they rented a small space in town to store their collection and entertain clients. By this time, their personal collection on antique maps and natural history prints was growing too large, so they placed some for sale in their gallery. They quickly grew in popularity, and soon, their rental space became too small. They purchased a restored building on Bay Street in Beaufort and have remained there ever since. Today, the renovated gallery is home to the work of four generations of the Rhett family, including Bill and Nancy’s art, their son William Rhett’s work, and prints made from the work of Bill’s father, mother, and grandfather.
