The History Behind This Antebellum Home
Circa 1804, the John Mark Verdier House was constructed in the Federal-style and features two staircases that meet at a mezzanine-step and an upstairs balcony. This mansion was named after John Mark Verdier, a prominent merchant and planter in Beaufort. His wealth grew from trading indigo and growing cotton on Port Royal Island on over 1,000 acres of farmland.
What’s on Display?
The John Mark Verdier House showcases the beauty and stunning allure of Beaufort in the 1800s.
